As we look to expand our reach and empower more students across the nation, the team is eager to announce our newest addition: Ruth Cooper, serving as the organization’s Operations Assistant.
Hello everyone! My name is Vartika Varshney, and I am the new Marketing and Communications Intern at Just Say YES – Youth Equipped to Succeed (JSY). Currently, I am studying toward a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).
Throughout the years, JSY has witnessed incredible student transformations from a life of emptiness and loneliness, to one of connection, character and potential. On behalf of the students, educators and parents we serve, THANK YOU for believing in the JSY mission!
On the evening of Wednesday, May 23, 2018, Just Say YES proudly rolled out the red carpet for the Peer-to-Peer Mentor Graduation held at The Atrium at Granville Arts Center in Garland, Texas. Parents, loved ones, campus leadership and friends of Just Say YES cheered on each student mentor and mentee as they walked across the stage to receive their well-deserved Certificate of Completion for the 2017-2018 program.
The goal is for students to understand how their own life experiences can serve as teachable moments for their freshmen mentees, who may be facing similar challenges as they did at that age. Being teenagers themselves, it also helps them to carefully consider next steps when making decisions, so that they fully comprehend how the choices they make now will impact their lives tomorrow.
It seems just like yesterday when I was taking a day off from my corporate job to volunteer as a speaker in a local middle school. I developed a talk on character, choices and consequences. This of course turned into more volunteer opportunities, and after speaking for 18 months, I was hooked!
My alarm goes off at 5:50 a.m. I get dressed for school, wake up my siblings, make breakfast and then ask my older sister to drive me to school.
